They will be able to apply this knowledge to real life experiences, such as babysitting. Scouts will role play first aid for common illnesses and injuries including cuts, burns, nosebleeds, seizures, choking, etc. Scouts will learn from a child care giver about how she prepares to prevent and treat medical emergencies when volunteering & using her nursing skills. Lastly, they will creatively share strategies for decision making through compromise in their lives and brainstorm how these skills might be useful in their future. In addition, scouts will learn from a professional lawyer about mediation in the field of law and from students involved in a high school debate team. Scouts will then practice debate and compromise through several interactive online games and by participating in an online debate forum. Scouts will be guided to apply what they learn in this workshop about group decision making methods in order to brainstorm solutions to real life conflict scenarios. In the spirit of respecting others different from ourselves, scouts will hear from someone originally from another country to understand their differences, similarities, their adjustments, and what we could do to help them feel welcome. Getting your voice heard in a respectful manner is also a good skill. Learning to make decisions that are fair to everyone involved in a group is a valuable leadership skill. Finally, scouts will watch a short video about philanthropic organizations that help people in need find homes, jobs and transportation. They will also plan and price their dream vacation and calculate how long they will need to save to reach that dream. Scouts will be guided through a mortgage calculator and other price deciding factors. Scouts will hit the real estate market online and "shop" for a budget- friendly home for themselves, as the house of their dreams. Scouts will answer: What kind of money & education does it take to reach your dreams? Scouts will take a "reality check" quiz, choose a career and then be guided to calculate their monthly budget. What is your dream job, your dream home, your dream vacation, and future dreams in general? How will you make these dreams a reality? What will it take to get there? Students will take 2 personality tests to find out what might best fit them for a career and a dream vacation. Scouts will brainstorm solutions for drinking adequate water and for setting goals to improve their health. Two short informational videos will help further understand this & other topics regarding healthy bodies. A focus of this workshop is to learn about the adverse effects of sugar and stress on the body and brainstorm ways to counter-act it. Before and after pictures of different people will demonstrate the importance of sleep and water for beautiful skin. They will evaluate what is already in their refrigerator and create and share healthy, meal-balanced recipes using a free website activity. They will review the food pyramid and the "New American Plate" and compare it to their habits. Scouts watch a virtual guest speaker talk about her job as a professional nutritionist and learn that good choices with food and water can affect their skin, energy levels and over-all health. 4 stations that include scout led discussions, craft projects and picture sharing.Ī healthy body creates a healthy body image and knowing what to put into our bodies is a great place to start. This does not include some overnight drying time for glue and paint. Scouts will learn from 2 video tutorials and practice their own skills at 2 different book binding techniques, paper-painting, other unique book features to create 2 of their own journals. In this workshop scouts will take a virtual video field-trip to a professional bookbindery and antique book restoration facility to learn about their tools, materials and end products.
